Henry A. Ford served as a missionary physician in the West African country of Gabon for the Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions from 1850 to 1854. He was appointed Commercial Agent from the United States in 1855. During that same year he returned to the United States and published "Observations on the Fevers of the Western Coast of Africa."
